What does the Franke Maris Water Hub 3-in-1 tap do?

The key difference is how you operate the boiling-water function.

The Maris Mechanical uses a physical pull-and-turn control to activate the boiling water. The Maris Electronic uses electronic controls.

If you prefer the simplicity of a mechanical control rather than electronic operation, the Maris Mechanical is the model to consider.

Is the Franke Maris 3-in-1 Mechanical tap safe?

The boiling-water function isn't operated in the same way as the normal hot and cold mixer.

To dispense boiling water, the mechanical control has to be pulled out and twisted, helping to reduce the risk of the boiling function being activated accidentally.

As with any appliance dispensing 100°C water, however, it should always be used carefully and children should be supervised around the tap.

Does the Franke Maris Water Hub replace my normal kitchen tap?

If cupboard space is particularly tight, it's worth measuring before ordering rather than assuming the system will fit.

How big is the Franke Maris boiling-water tank?

The Franke Maris Water Hub 3-in-1 Mechanical uses a 4-litre boiling-water tank.

It delivers boiling water at approximately 3.8 litres per minute, making it suitable for everyday jobs such as hot drinks, cooking and filling pans.

What water pressure does a Franke Maris Water Hub need?

The Franke Maris Water Hub 3-in-1 Mechanical is designed to operate from a minimum water pressure of 1 bar.

If you have unusually low water pressure, we'd recommend checking your pressure before ordering.

Does the Franke Maris Water Hub come with a filter?

Yes. The Maris Water Hub includes Franke's PRO M filter.

The filter helps improve the quality and taste of the boiling water while helping protect the system against limescale and mineral deposits.

How often does the Franke Maris filter need changing?

It depends on your water hardness and usage.

Franke states a maximum filter life of 12 months or 1,700 litres, but households in harder-water areas may need to replace the filter sooner.

As a guide, Franke's instructions recommend replacement at approximately:

• Under 10°dH: 12 months
• 10–15°dH: 10 months
• 15–20°dH: 8 months
• Over 20°dH: 6 months

These intervals are based on average consumption of around 3.5 litres of boiling water per day.

Do I still need a kettle with a Franke Maris boiling-water tap?

For most households, no.

The tap gives you 100°C boiling water on demand, so it can replace the kettle for most everyday uses including tea, coffee, cooking, blanching vegetables and filling pans.

Whether you choose to keep a kettle is personal preference, but it shouldn't be necessary for normal day-to-day use.

Is a Franke Maris boiling-water tap expensive to run?

The Maris system has an A energy rating and is designed to keep its stored water hot ready for use.

One potential advantage over a kettle is that you dispense the amount of boiling water you actually need rather than repeatedly boiling more water than required.

Actual running costs will depend on your household's usage and electricity tariff, so we'd be wary of promising a fixed saving compared with a kettle for every household.

What are the disadvantages of the Franke Maris 3-in-1 Mechanical?

There are a few things worth considering before buying.

It costs more upfront than a conventional kitchen mixer tap, requires space underneath the sink for the 4-litre tank and filter, and the filter is an ongoing replacement item.

You'll also need suitable plumbing and a power supply for the system.

In return, you're getting your normal kitchen mixer and true filtered 100°C boiling water from a single tap, which can remove the need for a kettle on the worktop.

Can I use a Franke Maris Water Hub with a Franke sink?

Franke currently provides a 2-year guarantee on the Maris Water Hub tap, tank and filter housing, subject to its guarantee conditions.

It's important to replace the filter at the recommended intervals and retain proof of your filter purchases, as Franke states this may be required for a guarantee claim.

Is the Franke Maris Water Hub 3-in-1 Mechanical worth buying?

It makes most sense if you regularly use your kettle and want to free up worktop space while having genuine 100°C boiling water instantly available.
